Rewarding Work
I won an award for this picture, a pretty big one. The judges said that it was beautiful and fascinating, that the confusion of perspective was a poignantly cubist statement on the lack of directionality one faces in life. They were curious about what it was, though; was it a sculpture? Some tiling? What?
It was the side of a Taco Bell, I replied. I had taken the picture one day when I was sitting in the drive-through, bored. I imagined submitting it for awards and being met with respect and approval.
